Got Questions, Mate?

Straight-up answers to the most common solar questions we get asked. No spin, just the facts.

How much can I save with solar?

Most Newcastle homes save $1,200–$2,500 a year depending on system size and energy use. Add a battery and you could cut your grid reliance by up to 80–90%.

Do solar panels work on cloudy days?

Yes. Panels still generate power in cloudy or rainy weather, just at reduced output. Newcastle averages over 220 sunny days a year, so it’s a great spot for solar.

What rebates or incentives are available?

The Federal Government’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) can cut upfront solar costs by up to 30%. Plus, you can earn bill credits by selling extra power back to the grid.

How long will my solar system last?

Quality solar panels last 20–25 years, and inverters around 10–15 years. We only install trusted brands built for Aussie conditions.

Do I really need a battery?

Not everyone does. Without one, you’ll still save a lot, but you’ll send excess power back to the grid. A battery lets you keep and use that power yourself, especially at night or in a blackout.

How long does installation take?

Most residential installs are done in one to two days. Larger commercial systems may take longer, but we always work around your schedule to keep disruption low.

Will solar add value to my home?

Yes. Homes with solar are more attractive to buyers and often sell for more, because buyers know they’ll get lower power bills from day one.

What makes Mate Solar different from other solar companies?
